The character of cast iron
Cast iron shelf brackets have supported shelves in British kitchens, sculleries and railway stations since Victorian times. Their scrolls and patterns make the bracket a feature in its own right, and suit period properties, cottages and farmhouse kitchens.
Looking after cast iron
Cast iron can rust if it is exposed to damp. Indoors, an occasional wipe with a dry cloth is usually enough. In steamy kitchens or bathrooms, a light coat of wax helps protect the finish. Surface rust can be removed with fine wire wool.
Pairing with shelves
Cast iron looks particularly good under thick wooden boards, including reclaimed and scaffold boards. For a lighter look, see our wooden shelf brackets, or browse all shelf brackets.
