Coat hooks with a shelf: storage without the footprint
A coat rack with a shelf gives you a place for coats below and a surface above for hats, gloves, keys or a small plant. In a hallway without room for a console table, it is the simplest way to add storage without losing floor space.
Where it works best
Hallways and boot rooms are the obvious home, but a shelf with hooks is just as useful in a bedroom for bags and dressing gowns, or in a kitchen for aprons and tea towels. Choose a shelf depth that suits what you want to keep on it: a shallow shelf for keys and post, a deeper one for baskets.
Getting the height right
